Each commission we accept is very personalized; we are committed to giving you a true one-of-a-kind experience.
Pre-session consultation
After we meet via e-mail or phone, we’d love to take you out for coffee. No, seriously, we mean it. Part of our focus on “oldfangled photography” is that we don’t want you to commission us until you are absolutely sure that we are going to meet your needs and provide an amazing service for you. We’ll meet at a coffee shop or similar location that’s convenient to you, or we can meet via Skype if we are not local to you.
If you decide to book us, we’ll schedule the session (and a rain date, if the session is going to be outdoors) and locations to make sure your session is exactly what you’re picturing.
What happens during an on-location session?
On session day, don’t stress! Our focus is capturing your family as it really is, so whatever happens is beautiful and genuine and to be treasured. We typically shoot inside your home (as long as you’re comfortable with that, of course) and then move to exterior locations near your home for outdoor shots. If there’s a special location you’d like to have your session feature, just let us know.
When do I get to see the images?
About two weeks after your session, we get together again to go over the session proofs, lay out your album, and plan your framed pieces and gallery items.
We hand-deliver your book and your framed pieces, as well as your digital files. Every piece you order is inspected carefully and thoroughly. If we’re not satisfied, we insist that it be re-made.
What products do you offer?
We specialize in heirloom matted and framed silver gelatin prints, archival pigment prints, and true photographic books. Our prints are made by a wonderful small imaging company in Boston that provides prints to many of the city’s galleries, and our books are handmade by bookbinders in Massachusetts, Australia, and Italy. We never use mass-produced products or non-archival printing.
Click the “Contact Us” link above to request our full product list.
All products and digital files are purchased separately and are not included in the session fee.
All sessions include film and digital coverage.
Every session is covered by two photographers.
Dogs, cats, kids, events big and small, main streets and back roads. We are strongly influenced by studying the history of photography and early photographic processing techniques. We are both trained in the black and white darkroom, and incorporate film work into each commissioned session.

Products
Photographs are meant to be seen, held, and treasured. Your fine prints will take on an even greater significance as time passes, when loved ones go Home or childhood becomes a distant memory. That’s why, even though we love sharing and collecting photos online, our focus is on beautifully handmade physical prints, books, and framed pieces.
We offer products for every budget, but we’d like to encourage you to come away from a session with something that you see every day (wall art or desk art), something that captures the story of the day (a print box or photographic book), and something to share and archive (digital scans).

What do you mean by archival?
Certain photographic printing methods are classified as conservation-grade or archival, meaning the lifetime of the photograph should be at least a hundred years without appreciable fading or degradation of the image.
Other photo printing methods are meant to last only a decade or two; after that point they will begin to lose their color and clarity, or will become brittle or yellowed. In general, most of the products you can buy commercially are not archival. Even the products available only to professional photographers and sold for extremely high prices have a short anticipated lifespan. We don’t think there’s anything wrong with the more temporary methods (which include wood prints, foamcore or gatorboard mounts, unframed printed canvases, most lay-flat albums, and virtually all of the novelty photo items), but we don’t encourage you to think of them as investments.
